ABOUT US
Kumi Nakamura was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido and first moved to Australia in 2006. She began teaching Japanese professionally in 2009, and since then has taught many students of all ages from many different backgrounds.
After graduating from RMIT with a degree in translation, Kumi worked for two years as a Japanese teacher in one of Melbourne’s largest Japanese schools, learning and developing different teaching methods.
Learning a language is a challenging but ultimately rewarding endeavour and Kumi is passionate about finding the right method for each student to learn in the most effective and efficient way. Whether it is for reasons of travel, family, or simply for fun, learning the Japanese language opens a fascinating window into one of the world’s most unique and colourful cultures.

Textbooks
We are currently using the Japanese textbook "GENKI" for beginners, which is well organised and easy to understand with clear explanations in English.
For beginner and intermediate levels we use "Minna no Nihongo", and for upper intermediate and advanced levels we use JLPT or VCE textbooks depending on student requirements. For Japanese VCE students we use the school's assigned textbooks in order to most effectively meet VCE requirements.
At JTM we believe that learning Japanese should be fun! In addition to the textbooks we use a wide variety of interesting materials to inspire and stimulate the learning process, such as YouTube, Japanese animations, dramas and movies. We want to help you reach your goals and will support you every step of the way!
